Lent Explained?

This is the start of the season of Lent.  What is that, you ask?  It is the six week period in the Christian faith that leads to Easter.  Much like Advent is a season of waiting during Christmas, Lent is a time to reflect and prepare for the celebration that is to come at Easter. 

It is generally a more somber, contemplative season than Christmas.  Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness before he began his ministry, so this time honors that event.  Some people either fast or give up something for Lent, to honor what was ultimately the greatest sacrifice. Some people choose to do something active – like start a thankfulness journal or commit to reading a bible verse a day.  Another option is to commit do a 40 day devotional. 

The Big and Small of God

To celebrate this day and offer you the opportunity to dive into the word for 40 days, I’m hosting a giveaway for this 40 day devotional!  The Big & Small of God focusses on nature and being mindful of your surroundings.  It  highlights the small, daily ways God shows up in our lives.  

After recovering from B cell Lymphoma and dealing with the aftermath of chronic pain and anxiety, the author wanted a way to share how she got through it.  It was a shift in her thinking that kept discouragement at bay. By observing her surroundings, she became aware of the small joys around her.  

These 40 devotions are a great way to find peace and purpose during this season and help shift your thinking from focussing on the negatives to trusting God’s plan. At the end of each devotion are suggested scripture readings.  You can look up the verses in your bible or find them in the back of the book.  Her husband provided the beautiful artwork inside. 

I hope this book encourages you and sparks your curiosity to notice God in the natural world around you.
