A Dance In Donegal
Momma Leighellen's Book Review

“and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee saying ‘This is the way, walk ye in it.” – A Dance In Donegal

What a perfect book to read for St Patty’s Day! I was able to enjoy this with a full plate of corned beef and cabbage on my lap, so I was fully immersed in the Irish experience!

SUMMARY

A Dance in Donegal is set in a quiet village in Ireland and follows the trials and antics of young gal named Moira. After the sudden death of her mother, Moira leaves all that she knows behind in Boston, gets on a ship, and heads to her mother’s home town in Ireland. She accepts a teaching position in the small farming community of Donegal where her mom grew up. Haunted by dreams of her deceased mother and confused about what the right next steps are for her future, she searches for answers where it all began.

“Yer mother’s tale will come ta light sooner or later, peata. Then the whole of Ballyman’ll know the truth about ye. . . . keep your eyes wide open”.

REVIEW

From the get go there are mishaps and adjustments. From the local dialect to the peculiar customs, Moira can’t quite fit in. Some of the townspeople embrace her, others cause her a lot of problems. Despite this, Moira presses on and tries to make her way, all while having confusing feelings for the handsome local roof thatcher.

Part coming of age, part romance, part mystery, 𝘼 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝘿𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙡 is Jennifer Deibel debut. I was fully enraptured with the the sights, sounds, and language of the book. The authors lush descriptions make the story come to life and you can tell she loves where she lives! Fans of Christian historian fiction will delight in this sweet tale full of a unique cast of characters from a by gone era. This was a delightful break from some of my recent heavier reads!!
