An Alternative Way to Spend Valentine's Day
Love Yourself this Valentine’s Day!
“You don’t find your worth in a man. You find your worth within yourself and then find a man who’s worthy of you. Remember that.” -Anonymous
February is here and stores everywhere are pushing chocolates and roses and forcing you to think that your single-dom somehow makes you “less than”. Before you find yourself crying into your ice cream, watching rom-coms alone on the couch let’s remember your value comes from above. Your life has been bought and paid for by a God who loves you just as you are. So as Maya Angelou famously said “put that crown on your head and wear it!”
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be spent with a date, it can be about showing love and appreciation for those in your life. This includes friends, family and yourself. Don’t focus on the fact that you don’t have a romantic relationship yet because you may be blessed with other deep relationships that are even better. Whether it’s having a coffee date with your mom after school or planning a girls night out with your friends, take advantage of the relationships you do have and focus on them. Maybe take a moment and write a quick note of encouragement to another single pal. Helping someone else through the holiday will enforce that you are not alone!
And just because you’re single now, doesn’t mean you’ll be single forever. Being single is the best way to find out who YOU are. It’s good to know what YOUR needs are before you start pouring into someone else. You are funny, you are smart, you are kind and you deserve love. The romantic relationship you want is out there. Still, you don’t have to feel bad that you don’t have it just because the calendar rolls around to February 14th! When you meet the right person, all the time you spent single will be worth it.
So today, spoil yourself like the queen you are. Get a pedicure. Go for a run. Buy some fresh flowers. And give thanks for the amazing people already in your life.
