Five Favs for Black History Month
Five Books Five Genres

February is Black History Month! I like to read diversely all year long, but I make a point to read more black authors during February. This year, I decided to read and share books in five genres so there was something for everyone. Here are Five of my Favs I read for Black History Month in February of 2023.

Five Favs for Black History Month

River Sing Me Home: Literary Fiction – A beautiful, page turning and redemptive story. It follows a freed mother’s journey across the Caribbean to find her stolen children in the aftermath of slavery. A Good Morning Ameerica bookclub pick!

Maame: Contemporary Fiction. – A grown up coming of age story. It follows a young woman coming into her own later in life, finding her voice, and learning who she is and what she stands for – all in the face of adversity, racism, and grief. A #readwithjenna pick!

House of Eve: Historical Fiction – An emotional tale set in the 1950’s about the power of resilience, the choices and sacrifices we women make for our families, the eye opening pain of racism and prejudice in all forms, and and the importance of learning from and never forgetting history. This was my Book Friends Book Club pick and a Reeses book club choice too!

Delicious Monsters: YA Thriller – an evocative and mind-bending psychological thriller. It follows two teen girls navigating the treacherous past of a mysterious mansion ten years apart

Dyscalculia: Memoir – In this exquisite and raw reflection, the author uses her childhood “dyscalculia”—a disorder that makes it difficult to learn math—as a metaphor for the consequences of her miscalculations in love. A story about learning to love yourself.
